Dtwo days after the discovery of the bodies of a woman and her two children killed with knives in a pavilion in Dreux (Eure-et-Loir), the former spouse of the mother of the family was arrested on Saturday morning in the Yvelines.
His run only lasted 48 hours. “The ex-spouse of the deceased woman and father of the two children who also died, was arrested in the town of Plaisir in the Yvelines”, prosecutor Frédéric Chevallier said in a press release, confirming information from France info and the Republican Echo.
Placed in police custody, the suspect will be “heard by the judicial police of Orleans on the facts of aggravated voluntary homicides”, specified the prosecutor. He was to arrive at the Orleans police station at the beginning of the afternoon for 48 hours of police custody.
He was arrested on Saturday “following the call of an employee of a telephone shop”, the magistrate said in his press release.
Wanted by investigators, this man was considered the main suspect after the discovery on Thursday of three bodies, that of a 36-year-old mother, her 13-year-old daughter and an 18-month-old baby boy, in their pavilion in Dreux. .
He was sentenced in September 2021 for violence against his wife and daughter to one year in prison, including four months suspended probation, with a ban on contacting them.
The bodies of the victims had wounds and the first findings led “to favor the use of a knife by the perpetrator”, according to the magistrate.
The man is suspected of having carried “about forty stab wounds” on his ex-spouse, and ten on each child. The autopsies of the three bodies are planned “at the beginning of the week in Rouen”, according to the magistrate.
Thursday morning, the mother of the family did not show up for a scheduled meeting with a relative, who alerted the firefighters.
All day Thursday, the investigators of the scientific police had been busy carrying out the survey of the first elements in the family pavilion with brick walls devoid of plaster. On the facade was installed a surveillance camera.
“I’m going to end my life”
Hours before the discovery of the bodies, the father had posted two messages on Facebook accusing his wife of cheating on him and hitting his daughter, accompanied by photos showing bruises on a forearm. “I’m going to end my life,” he wrote.
“She has already cheated on me with other men, several times and that, my daughter knew it”, had affirmed the man who is hard of hearing, who expresses himself in sign language. “My wife told her that if she told me everything, she would hit her,” he said, according to a transcript made by AFP.
According to Mehmet (his first name has been changed), a man who knew the mother well, the couple had lived in this house for about ten years, and had been separated for about two years.
Despite the ban on contact with his wife and daughter, the 46-year-old man drove down the street several times, Mehmet noted.
He told AFP that the 30-year-old came to see him on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., telling him “I’m scared”. She had wanted to file for divorce for several years, according to this neighbor.
On Wednesday, she went to file a complaint for theft of jewelry and documents, suspecting her ex of having kept a duplicate of the keys to the house, the prosecutor had confirmed.
She had already filed a complaint on May 9 after discovering a GPS tracker under her car, according to the magistrate, adding that the ex-spouse was to be heard in June on these facts.
