As we mentioned a few days ago, Jorge Lorenzo makes his debut this weekend in the opening race of the Porsche Supercup that is being held this weekend in Monaco, a totally unknown circuit for the #99, which today He has secured 24th place out of 28 drivers at the end of Saturday’s qualifying session.
The drivers had 30 minutes to fight for pole position, which the Dutchman Larry Ten Voorde ended up taking. Lorenzo’s time left him almost 3 seconds behind the first classifiedso it will start 24th.
“It’s really hard, really hard, more than I expected”, the five-time MotoGP world champion said to the microphones at the end of the session. “A very special urban circuit in which we cannot make the slightest mistake ”, comments on the layout, and confesses to having committed “a mistake in the first corner, and I hit the wall, luckily without consequences, but I had to stop in the box”.
The number 99 confesses that he is not surprised by his gap with the best: “As expected, we are quite far. We haven’t had much time to progress on the track, but it was a very special experience”, he assessed.

He was also talking about preparing to get into a sports car with more than 500 CV to compete: “I prepared myself with video games and in the simulator. So basically I know where to go. It’s still something completely different to drive a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on this unique race track. I have to admit: it’s harder than I expected.”.
Already thinking about the race he will take part in on Sunday, Lorenzo sets himself the goal “reach the end better than in 20th place.”
The former MotoGP rider was fully immersed in this new Porsche Supercup adventure after taking part in the Porsche Cup Italia at the wheel of a 911 GT3 last season. He is now making his debut in the fastest single-brand competition in the world, surrounded by top-level riders and carrying the same 510 hp 911 GT3 Cup.
