German Heidelberg made Queen Silvia of Sweden its honorary citizen. On Friday, May 26, the mayor of the city Eckart Würzner presented the relevant documents to the Queen of Sweden, who is connected with Heidelberg and Germany all her life.

Silvia Renate Sommerlath was born on December 23, 1943 in Heidelberg to German businessman Walther Sommerlath and Brazilian Alice Soares de Toledo. In Germany, in Munich, Sylvia met her future husband. The Swedish King Carl XVI, then still a prince, came to Bavaria for the 1972 Olympic Games.

Swedish Queen Silvia is always very warmly received in her hometown. In 2019, she opened the Childhood-Haus, a special facility here to help children who have experienced violence or sexual harassment (pictured in the title photo).

German by birth, she became the idol of the Swedes. Sylvia is also loved in her native Germany, where she is a frequent visitor. Not only openness and charm attract people. Sylvia is the patron of more than 60 charitable organizations that provide assistance to orphans, as well as people suffering from dementia, the homeless, and drug addicts. On December 23, 2023, the Queen of Sweden will celebrate her 80th birthday.
