Mr. Principal:

Reading history books, I come across an anniversary that the historian Felipe Pigna mentions to a man from Mendoza who ruled San Juan. It turns out that on May 28, 1774, General Manuel Corvalán was born in Mendoza. He participated in the events of May 1810 agitating the patriot cause. He was appointed lieutenant governor of San Juan in 1814, but had to leave office at the request of General José de San Martín. He then became part of the Army of the Andes, being in charge of the equipment, weapons and other preparations. In 1826 he represented his native province as a deputy in the General Constituent Congress. He was then aide-de-camp to Colonel Manuel Dorrego, the latter being Governor of Buenos Aires. He participated together with Juan Manuel de Rosas in the campaign against the government of General Lavalle and was later aide-de-camp to Rosas. He died in Buenos Aires on February 9, 1847.
