He Fantastic Film Festival of the Canary Islands City of La Laguna Isla Calavera, which will celebrate its seventh edition from November 10 to 19, has opened the film registration period. Directors, producers and distributors may submit their work until October 7, 2023, the closing date of the call for all categories. The owners of the works are called to present their short and feature films of any nationality, framed in the fantastic genre (horror, science fiction, fantasy, thriller…), in the fiction and documentary modalities, both real image and animation.

The selected works will form part of the program that will be displayed at Multicines Tenerife, the venue for projections of the Isla Calavera Festival.

Deborah Nadoolman Landis collected the Skull Island of Honor Award in November 2022.

New “Deborah Nadoolman Landis” Award for Best Costume Design

The Jury of the Official Section of the contest will award the Isla Calavera awards for Best Short Film, Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, “Jack Taylor” Award for Best Actor, “Colin Arthur” Award for Best Special Effects and a new award, the “Deborah Nadoolman Landis” Award for Best Costume Design. The Festival incorporates this category into the list of winners after the costume designer’s visit to the last edition of the contest, who, when receiving the Isla Calavera de Honor 2022 Award, thanked the visibility given to this fundamental profession in the film industry and especially in the fantastic genre. The artist, nominated for an Oscar and responsible for the iconic costumes of Indiana Jones, has assured that she feels very honored with the name of the award.

The members of the Jury will also consider the granting of the “Fantástico Solidario” Award for the Best Short Film with solidarity and/or civic content. Likewise, there will be two audience awards for Best Short Film and Best Feature Film, which will be decided by the audience.

The complete bases of the call and all the information on the procedure to present the materials are available on the web www.festivalislacalavera.com. Titles with a production date after January 1, 2022, which have not been commercially released in Spanish exhibition halls, on television or video-on-demand platforms, are accepted. The maximum duration of the short films is 20 minutes.

Registrations can be made through digital platforms Festhome y Film freeway.

The Festival is in the middle of the programming process and the selection committee is already working on the viewings of the titles that will make up the next edition of Isla Calavera.
