The state prosecution in Belarus has requested 11 years in prison for 21-year-old Russian citizen Yegor Dudnikov, who is accused of “inciting social hatred” and calls for actions “harming national security.” This was announced on Thursday, December 23, by TASS with reference to the human rights center “Vesna”.

The trial in the Dudnikov case in the Minsk City Court is being held behind closed doors. The verdict is expected to be pronounced on December 27. Earlier, Dudnikov’s lawyer, Anton Gashinsky, stated that in the event of a guilty verdict, he would seek the extradition of his client to Russia.

Charges against Dudnikov

The Minsk prosecutor’s office brought Dudnikov’s case to court on November 22. The young man was detained on May 5 in Minsk. At first he was accused of “gross violation of order” (part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code), but later this article was removed from the charge. As a result, the case was reclassified into articles on “inciting hatred” (part 3 of article 130 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus) and on calls for actions aimed at causing “harm to national security” (article 361). The maximum punishment for the first of them is 12 years in prison, and for the second – 5 years.

According to investigators, from January to May 2021, Dudnikov “posted at least 55 voice messages of an incentive character” sounded by him “on the Telegram channel to” escalate tension and conflict in society and the state. “
