Joan Mir was the great claim used by Dainese to inaugurate his new store in Madrid, an event that took place this past May 30 and which was also attended by hundreds of fans who came to the new boutique of the Italian firm to meet in person the former MotoGP champion in 2020.
The Balearic pilot attended this commitment in the capital of Spain just a few days away from heading to Mugello to contest the sixth race of the year, the Italian Grand Prix, a date in which Mir hopes to turn around his delicate situation within the championship.
The #36 has not been able to score points since the feature race of the Portuguese Grand Prix; he was absent in Argentina due to injury, and from there Mir has been accumulating a terrible series of falls which has led him to occupy the 21st position overall in the championship with only 5 points, even less than Jonas Folger, who joined the world championship in Austin to cover the loss of Pol Espargaró in GASGAS.
During his presence at the new Dainese Madrid store, Mir had a brief live with Nico Abad on his twitch channela talk in which he talked about the problems that he is encountering with Honda to recover the speed that led him to be world champion with Suzuki three years ago.
As Mir explained, the answer to his delicate situation in the World Cup is that “In MotoGP it is the highest level of everything, here all the details count, if you don’t feel good in the way you ride and every time you try to push, you fall, it takes away confidence, it takes away everything. If this is combined with the adaptation process, with a complicated bike and with so many crashes, everything is delayed a lot.”
Mir had never started a season in MotoGP with such bad figures, which is why he does not hide the fact that “It hurts me a lot to see where I am right now. I’m behind, and every time I try to ride a bit more naturally, as I like and as I’ve ridden in the past and I’ve been fast, I crash. It’s as simple as this.”
Closing the gap with those above is something that will take time and work, also by Honda: “The team has to understand what I need to be fastAs for where I have to sit, what to do with the bike… everything is important. I also have to adapt to this new management.”
Regarding the support she receives from the Japanese brand, Joan categorically affirms that “the team listens to me“and you’re getting a “Full support, I say it very clearly” finish “But it is what I tell you, if they give me two tenths per lap, the film would be very different”regrets the #36, who does not enter the points zone of a race from Portugal.
Addressing the question of whether Honda pays the same attention to him as to the great star of the team, Marc Márquez, Mir clarifies that “It is the same case” and that does not find differences in treatment: “Marc has been with this bike for many years, he knows exactly what this bike needs to work. He is the best rider on the grid, and of course he is saving the furniture, I am not doing it, it is simply my reality. Marc camouflages it because of how he rides, because of how he knows how to ride this bike for so many years, well now he camouflages it. I can’t camouflage it. With the Suzuki I took some risks that turned out well for me. I have to find a way to take those risks with this bike and make it work for me. We have to turn the situation around.”

Finally, the 25-year-old pilot admits “not knowing” when will he fight for privileged positions again, and he does not hide being “sick of falling”, while sending a positive message: “Before the season ends we have to turn this around.”
