A collective feeling of anger and dismay blew at the administrative court of Lyon, Wednesday May 31, where sixty-five hospital staff from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region requested the cancellation of their professional suspension, decided by their establishments at the end of 2021 , because of their refusal to comply with the vaccination against Covid-19.

“After being applauded for our battle against the epidemic, we were thrown away like dirt. From one day to the next, we had no more jobs, no more status. It’s a very violent thing.” testified Maud Verchère-Fauche, 50, spokesperson for the association for the defense of hospital staff in the Loire (ADPH 42), medical secretary at the Roanne hospital center. Like her, around fifteen health professionals attended the very legal hearing.

“As a punishment”

After the ministerial instruction of May 2, followed by the decree of May 15, authorizing the reinstatement of unvaccinated hospital staff in the establishments where they worked, some have launched appeals to have their suspension canceled and thus attempt to recover their remuneration, their retirement points, their professional seniority over the period in question, which can vary from one to twenty months, depending on the case.

Some have contracted Covid, and the resulting immunity has allowed them to obtain a vaccination pass. Others have experienced a long suspension, like Arianne, 42, who counted twenty months. “I experienced it as a punishment” says the nursing assistant, who has just returned to her post at the Forez hospital center (Loire), after a period of RSA and a temporary job in a crèche. “I am up to date with all my other vaccines, I am not at all antivax, but I did not want to take any risk with a product in the trial phase. I assumed my decision even if it was very hard to live “, confides the single mother, who prefers not to give her name.

Feeling of exclusion after years of career, of incomprehension when their position was away from the public, difficulty in finding their bearings in the face of hostile directions…: those suspended share the hope of a favorable decision for “take a new course”as Sylvia Coroforo, 52, administrative secretary at the hospital in Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône) for eighteen years, who remains on availability without knowing if she will return to the health sector, says. “I spend nights wondering what I will become, I don’t want to tell myself that they have won”, she says.
