The industry remains optimistic. However, the shortage of skilled workers is a source of concern. The manufacturers rely on training and further education – especially since the performance of the wind turbines is increasing.

In view of the climate and energy crisis, the wind energy industry sees itself on the right track. According to the eleventh trend index of Windenergy Hamburg, the world’s leading trade fair for wind energy, the positive assessments of the past six months for Germany, Europe, North America and Asia have largely been retained.

Asia and North America in particular continued their upward trend, while Europe, Africa, Australia and Central and South America fell slightly. Germany is improving in the area of offshore wind, i.e. in the generation of energy from wind at sea, and worsening in wind power on the mainland (onshore), “but is maintaining the high after the low mood of the past few years”.

efficiency will continue to increase

According to the information, more than 500 market players took part in the survey between mid-March and the end of April. A clear majority assumed that the performance of wind turbines on- and offshore will increase significantly by 2030. They expect an average size of 8.2 megawatts per wind turbine onshore and 18.8 megawatts offshore. The nominal output on land is currently between two and five megawatts, and five to twelve megawatts at sea. Mathematically, a wind turbine with a nominal output of six megawatts can produce around ten gigawatt hours of electricity in one year and thus supply up to 3,500 households with energy all year round.

Even if the wind industry is still largely viewed optimistically, there are also concerns in the industry, according to the study. Above all, the shortage of skilled workers has an impact, which is why more than two thirds of those surveyed considered training and further education to be important or very important. Specifically, in the onshore sector, 45 percent rated the importance of training and further education for the next twelve months as “very high” and 32.1 percent as “high”. In the offshore sector it is 33.6 and 32.5 percent respectively. (dpa)
