“More flexibility”. This is the government’s objective to simplify your administrative procedures online. And from this Thursday, June 1, this is supposed to become very concrete. You can cancel your insurance contracts (home, automobile, health, etc.) in just three clicks. The decree published on June 1 sets “the technical methods aimed at making it as simple as possible for the consumer”.
So, to overcome this termination, and avoid complex termination requests by registered mail or by telephone, you just need to log on to your insurance website. If it has made the necessary changes, when you consult your contract, it must appear “an identifiable, easy to access, direct and permanent feature” to terminate it.
This new procedure applies to future contracts but also to those already signed, even if they were signed in store. “In the same way that it is often very simple to subscribe to an offer, the possibility of termination will now also be so”, promises this Thursday Olivia Grégoire, the Minister Delegate in charge of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), Trade, Crafts and Tourism.
In most cases, a “cancel your contract” button will be present on your web page. It will be enough to perform the first click on it. Then, a second page should open to fill in more information (last name, first name, means of contact, contract reference, etc.) and in particular the why and how of your termination, before validating. It’s the second click. Finally, you will be asked for a last click after having read the general summary of the conditions and consequences, to “confirm your request for termination”. And voila !
75,000 euros fine in the event of non-compliance
Except that few insurers or banks have updated or prepared their platforms for D-Day. So don’t worry, if you can’t find the first button, it’s because your insurance hasn’t still does its part of the job to offer this termination “in three clicks” on its various media, despite a text voted on August 16, 2022. If one of the main insurers mentioned “a technical problem”, another tells us not to be aware of this change.
“The information has not reached us at all. I’m getting it back up as soon as possible, but currently this feature is not available to us, ”replied a customer service. Companies that do not comply with this obligation may be fined up to 75,000 euros.
This functionality, for the moment only imposed on the field of insurance, should be extended by decree to new services in the coming months. Energy (electricity, gas, etc.) and telecom (telephony, box, etc.) contracts would be affected.
