The Fianarantsoa Côte Est railway line has been reopened since yesterday. It is the presidential couple who carried out a mission to Fianarantsoa since Thursday who proceeded to the inauguration of the resumption of this line linking Fianarantsoa to the Fitovinany Region. In addition to the rehabilitation of the rails and the acquisition of new wagons and locomotives, the 18 stations making up the FCE line have also been rehabilitated.
For this reopening, passenger trains and freight wagons will only serve the Fianarantsoa – Manampatrana route. However, according to the Head of State, the Fianarantsoa Côte-Est railway line will make the complete Fianarantsoa – Manakara journey from next June.
Currently, draisines intended for the maintenance of the railway are already in Manakara. ” We have made the restoration of the FCE line a challenge, because it not only facilitates the transport of goods and people but also participates in the revitalization and transformation of the economic sector in the 2 regions it crosses, namely the Haute Matsiatra and Fitovinany regions declared President Andry Rajoelina.
The Head of State also did not fail to note that since its opening in 1936, the FCE line has practically not been the subject of any maintenance work. In 2021, President Rajoelina has already handed over 4 locomotives and 4 passenger wagons to CFE. A recovery plan allowing the payment of employees’ salaries and the payment of pensions, unpaid for several months, has also been put in place. This plan also leads to the establishment of a turnaround committee and a collegiate management responsible for leading the company’s turnaround procedure.
The objectives set by the State will soon be achieved thanks to this recovery. In addition, the President of the Republic also gave directives to the supervising minister in order to continue the efforts already deployed, in particular by the acquisition of a new locomotive and the rehabilitation of the station of Fianarantsoa.
