With the taking of the oath, José Ruales, the national health authority, appointed the surgeon Martha Gordón as the new Zonal 9 coordinator of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). The event was attended by managers and directors of the health establishments corresponding to the Metropolitan District of Quito.
Ruales began his speech by thanking the work of Ana Paulina Coronel, outgoing zonal coordinator 9. “There are 3 qualities that we expect from officials who manage health facilities: leadership, transparency and management capacity.”
He also stressed that managerial capacity is a priority. Leadership is identified, observed and appears in moments of crisis where favorable conditions are lacking. That is when a leader demonstrates his capabilities, making clear and objective decisions ”.
He ended his speech by asking the authorities of the establishments to support the work of the new zonal authority. “We will work until the last day because we must maintain the continuity of the health system and our services running at 100%. The management has a single objective, which is to guarantee the health of the people”.
For her part, the new Coordinator committed her work with responsibility, organization and planning. “Working in the Ministry of Public Health is like a master’s degree because this is where you learn public health management. One of my specialties is faithful compliance with regulations, I was in regulation and I understand the scope of that, including the legal issue that health professionals may have.
Gordón, who is also a Master in Public Health, has updated several Clinical Practice Guides of the Ministry of Public Health. As part of her career, she held positions as head of the Health Zone of the Municipality of Quito, where she was also director of management of the Health Subsystem; Technical Coordinator of Health Area No. 20 – Chillogallo-Lloa; National Director of Standardization of the MSP, District 17D06 and community brigades; manager of the Julio Endara Specialized Hospital and professor at the San Francisco de Quito University.
