Chennai: Famous director KS Sethumadhavan (94) has passed away. He died at his home in Directors Colony, Chennai. Malayalam and the film industry have lost the talent that won the Jesse Daniel Award. Apart from Malayalam, he has made films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. He is thought to have died of a heart attack during a night’s sleep.

From Oda, he was the director of hit movies like Oppol, Chattakkari, Anubhavangal Palichakal and Aranazhika Neram. In the early days of Malayalam cinema, Sethumadhavan was a director who gave the right direction. He paid special attention to the conversion of Malayalam novels into films. He received the Jesse Daniel Award in 2009 for his outstanding contribution to the film industry. He was the director who laid the foundation for the qualities that Malayalam cinema claims today.

KS Sethumadhavan was born in Palakkad. After graduating from Victoria College, he joined K Ramnath’s as an assistant director. The first film to be released in 1960 was Veeravijaya directed by Sethumadhavan. Jnana Sundari is the first Malayalam film directed by KS Sethumadhavan and is based on the short story by Muttath Varkey.

Later KS Sethumadhavan directed about 60 films. In 1973, she won the Nargis Dutt Award, part of the National Award. He was also the first to bring the National Award for Best Picture to Tamil. Valsala is the wife. Children: Sonukumar, Uma and Santosh Sethumadhavan.
