New destinations and increased participation in the IMSERSO Leisure and Free Time Program
The execution of the scheduled shifts began on April 10 and ends on October 26. A participation of close to 1,500 people is expected, almost 9% more than in the previous call. As a novelty this year, the Basque Country and La Rioja are added to the destinations offered.
For yet another year, the SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA Confederation offers the entities of the associative movement to enjoy the IMSERSO Leisure and Free Time Program, which gives users of the associations the opportunity to travel to different tourist destinations.
In this 2022 call, with execution in 2023, a participation of close to 1,500 people is expected.
As in previous editions, the destinations most in demand are island and beach cities, although new inland destinations are also being opted for. “The objective is that the offer of destinations is diverse and offers different incentives for the participating people”, explains Sara Domínguez, technician of Projects and Studies of the Confederation.
For this reason, this year, as a novelty, trips to the Basque Country and La Rioja have been included, with an approximate participation of 70 and 60 people respectively. In addition, Madrid, which already made its debut as a destination last year, will repeat in 2023 with the visit of around 100 people.
The most demanded destinations in this call are: Las Palmas, Mallorca, Malaga, Tenerife North and Almeria.
During the months of April and May, 422 people have already traveled, distributed in 17 shifts, from 22 entities in Andalusia, Catalonia, Extremadura, Navarra, the Basque Country, Castilla La Mancha, Murcia, the Valencian Community and Galicia; 16 Autonomous Communities are expected to participate throughout the year.
The Confederation views the progress of the program very positively, which in this edition already has a waiting list of around 200 people, and which has reached participation figures prior to the pandemic.
Already in the previous 2021 call, executed in 2022, a total of 1,356 people traveled, while in the current one, with execution this year, an increase in participation of almost 9% is expected.
Leisure and Free Time Program
The entities of the SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA network disseminate, encourage, coordinate, and some even process themselves, the participation of people with mental health problems in the Confederation Vacation Program, which receives funding from IMSERSO.
The requirements to participate in this Leisure and Free Time Program is to be over 16 years of age and have a recognized disability of 33% or more. The Leisure and Free Time Program is also a respite resource for families or people who, on many occasions, take care of these people.
