Created in 1892 in Pennsylvania, the manufacture established itself – in addition to the watchmaking world – in the world of cinema from the 1930s with a first Hamilton timepiece which appeared in the film Shanghai Express with Marlene Dietrich and directed by Josef von Sternberg in 1932. A major first, spearheading almost a century of partnership with the 7e art since the watches signed Hamilton appear nearly 500 times in the cinema. This cinematic breakthrough intensified in the 1950s, when Hamilton again burst onto the screen in The Frogmenmade in 1951 by Lloyd Bacon, and in 1957 by unveiling its revolutionary model then called “Ventura”, imagined by the visionary industrial designer Richard Arbib.

A piece that Elvis Presley quickly fell in love with. Thanks to the King himself, the Ventura was greatly popularized, dressing the wrists of the actor in his everyday life but especially in the film Blue Hawaiidirected in 1961 by Norman Taurog without forgetting those of the heroes of the saga Men in Black from 1997. For 2023, Hamilton is continuing its watchmaking development in connection with the cinema again and again by equipping Harrison Ford with a model specially created for him on the occasion of the last film in the legendary franchise. A model that dates back to the 1940s

Indeed, nearly 15 years after having played the character for the last time on screen, Harrison Ford once again dons the costume of the famous archaeologist in the fifth installment of the saga, entitled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. This feature film by James Mangold was recently presented in world premiere and out of competition at 76e Cannes Film Festival where the 80-year-old American actor received a Palme d’honneur.

For the ultimate adventurer’s lap, Indy runs on XXL adventure and sets off in search of lost time. Jones tries here and with the help of his goddaughter (Phoebe Waller Bridge) to get his hands on the Antikythera machine. An ancient calculator made by the mathematician Archimedes who can change the course of history and coveted by the Nazis including the villain of the adventure, Jürgen Voller, played by Mads Mikkelsen.

To guide him in this quest, the hero, adorned with his iconic whip and Fedora hat, is also and above all accompanied by a Hamilton timepiece. This is the Boulton, a reference that made its first appearance in the 1940s and one of the most iconic watches in the American Classic collection. We find its steel case with yellow gold PVD coating in the “cushion” shape as well as its white dial in Art Deco style and on which a small seconds sub-counter is displayed at 6 o’clock. Delivered on a brown leather strap with alligator finish, the Hamilton American Classic Boulton is powered by a quartz movement.
