When did the investigations begin?
The PF began investigating the possible fraud after a report in the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported that the company Megalic, from Maceió, charged the municipalities of the state of Alagoas about R$ 14,000 per kit. However, the company d would have purchased the kits for a much lower amount (R$ 2,700) from a supplier in the interior of the state of São Paulo.
After that, the Federal Audit Court (TCU) ordered the federal government to suspend transfers and contracts with the company for the purchase of objects.
How did the scheme work?
According to the investigation by the PF, the bids for the purchase of the kits illegally included restrictions that directed all contracts to a single company supplying the materials.
With the action, the fraudulent scheme diverted BRL 8.1 million from the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) between 2019 and 2022.
Megalic’s partners made financial transactions for individuals and companies, however, none of them had any connection with the robotics business.
With the aim of circumventing the Central Bank/COAF system, transactions were carried out in fractions with individual amounts below R$50,000. After that, withdrawals were made in cash to pay those involved. So far, the damage has already reached R$ 19.8 million.

The PF served 27 search and seizure warrants in the following states:
- Maceió (AL): 16
- Brasilia: 8
- Gravatá (PE): 1
- São Carlos (SP): 1
- Goiânia (GO): 1
The warrants also extended to the federal capital, Brasilia.
