The Italian justice has just imposed an 8-year prison sentence on a Colombian priest who gave money to minors to access them sexually.
His name is Carlos Alberto Pérez Arco, he is 42 years old and they were sentenced to 96 months in prison for the specific case of two children to whom he gave up to 110 euros to accompany him on walks.
According to the judicial file, collected by the Italian press, it was on these tours that the Colombian priest took the opportunity to sexually violate minors, who do not exceed 14 years of age.
This situation, whereby the Catholic priest is isolated in a recovery center – as they call the places where they take priests convicted of sexual abuse – occurred in a town in Rome known as Carpineto Romano.
In that province there is the San Juan Eudes Missionary Institute, of which Pérez Arco was a member, and in 2021 – after the first complaints – the arrest of this priest was registered.
The investigation also revealed that photos of the victims and pornographic material were found on the cell phone of the priest convicted of being a pedophile.
“The investigations began as a result of complaints filed by the parents, who became suspicious when they found the money, 110 euros, which one of the victims claimed to have received from the religious on various occasions. The man used to put the money in the pockets of the children if they refused to take it directly”, reads an article in the newspaper Ilcorrieredellacitta.com.
In addition, according to that same publication, the Colombian began to look for them when the minors stopped contact with him. Even in the same Roman province, according to media in the area, the population already knew about the history of abuse that surrounded Pérez Arco.
“When the children’s parents forbade their children from accepting money from the man, or ordered them to break off the relationship, he refused and kept in touch. The investigations revealed that the money they were given was not disinterested donations, as he himself said, because they were linked to the unhealthy relationship between the religious and the minors”, indicated in an article collected by Ilmessaggero.it.
For all these facts, the Colombian priest Carlos Alberto Pérez Arco, who remains in Italian territory, must not only pay the sentence of 8 years in prison, but is also obliged to pay compensation of 40,000 euros for the damages caused at the civil level.
About this same priest, Blu Radio had published a document that warned about his conduct with minors during a Catholic mission in Africa.
In addition, the network known as L’Abuso – organization of victims of pedophilia in Italy – has identified more than 300 rapist priests in the last 15 years, including this Colombian, responsible for the abuse of more than 1,300 people.
