US bank analysts JPMorgan reviewed the recommendations for two important companies in the Brazilian retail sector. The specialists downgraded the recommendation for the shares of Magazine Luiza and Viathe owner of Casas Bahia and Ponto.
For them, national retailers have a challenging perspective for the segment of high-value durable items (called ticket average) due to pressure on consumers’ disposable income, particularly for the lower middle class, which has historically been Via and Magazine Luiza’s customer base.
The bank’s analysis made Via’s and Magalu collapse in the Brazilian stock exchange: the first leads falls, with a drop of 9% and the other retailer retreats almost 6%.
