Yesterday the play “The disobedience of Mars” premiered at the C3 Cultural Center of Science. Written by the Mexican journalist Juan Villoro and directed by Marcelo Lombardero. The piece tells the story of astronomers Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler -played by Osmar Núñez and Lautaro Delgado Tymruk, respectively- in a castle in 1600, and the intimacy that surrounds them while they work on the trajectories of the orbits, especially that of Mars . The play, co-produced by the Cultural Science Center of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Cervantes National Theater of the Ministry of Culture, is recommended for people over 16 years of age. The functions are from Friday to Sunday, at 8:00 p.m., in the C3 auditorium (Godoy Cruz 2270, CABA), with free seats obtained through theatrical alternative.

The trajectories that the links take
The show tells the story of the German astronomer and mathematician, Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), who, invited by Tycho Brahe, Danish astronomer and imperial mathematician of Rudolf II, collaborates to decipher the trajectories of the orbits, especially that of Mars, the most rebel.

Tycho was known for the design and precision of instruments to measure the positions of the stars and planets, which, after his death, pass into the possession of Kepler, which were essential for him to be able to formulate his laws on the movement of the planets in their orbits. orbits around the Sun.

The play delves into the tense relationship between scientists and in an unexpected turn, like the movement of Mars, takes another course to enter the intimacy of the actors who, like Kepler and Brahe, are looking for the truth. Set in 1600 or today, the game of opposites intermingles to enable memory, beliefs and human relationships. Both need each other, both mistrust each other, but without the other they cannot reach the movement of Mars or discover who each one is.

Villoro was inspired by the book “The Sleepwalkers”, by Arthur Koestler, to write this piece that starts from the conjectures about the origin of the Universe, and takes, in particular, the meeting of astronomers in the castle of Benatek, Bohemia, in 1600 to decipher the orbits of the planets.

Premiere of the work
The premiere of the show was attended by the holder of the scientific portfolio, Daniel Filmus, and his counterpart from Culture, Tristán Bauer.

Filmus expressed: “This space is the meeting point between science and culture. We are looking for works that challenge the epic of science from the theater. When one goes deeper, there are many meeting points between theater and science. Creativity and intuition are needed, in addition to work, and there are techniques for theater and science such as rehearsal. In both it is called the same, which is to test hypotheses” and pointed out that “there are other things in common between theater and science, such as ethics, the beauty of forms, and both have the same enemies, censorship, obscurantism, totalitarianism and one in favor, the State. Science and theater are elitist if the State does not place it in the hands of everyone”, and he concluded “let us live more with dignity to transmit cultural identity, scientific sovereignty. A theater starts today and it will be there forever”.

Bauer reviewed the works in conjunction with Filmus in the years as Minister of Education such as Canal Encuentro, Tecnópolis and “today the theater to link science and culture. I thank Daniel for so many years of work” and extended thanks to artists and teams involved, and the presence of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo.

For her part, the Director of Development of Museums, Exhibitions and Fairs of the Ministry of Science, in charge of the direction of the C3 Cultural Center for Science, Guadalupe Díaz Costanzo, thanked the work of Villoro, Lombardero, the cast and everyone. those who made it possible that “today the C3 is a theater. We hope to start a new path”.

Also present were the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Raquel “Kelly” Olmos; the Director of the Cervantes National Theater, Gladis Contreras; the Director of the Falklands and South Atlantic Islands Museum and ex-combatant, Edgardo Esteban; the reference of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Founding Line, Taty Almeida; cultural personalities, among others.
