Prigozhin is the head of the controversial Wagner private army. In the Telegram message, he revealed that his men had discovered various explosive devices in 12 locations. Among them were apparently hundreds of anti-tank mines.

When asked, the officers stated that they had followed orders from their superiors. The regular army operates under the command of Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu.

The placement of the explosives allegedly indicates that they were intended for Wagner mercenaries. “We assume that this was an attempt to publicly punish us,” explains Prigozhin according to the “Bild”.

So far, there is no official statement from the Ministry of Defense to comment on the allegations. However, they could aggravate the already strained relationship between the private army and the Russian Defense Ministry.

The background to this power struggle lies in Prigozhin’s repeated allegations. He claims Moscow is deliberately delaying much-needed supplies of ammunition.

He is said to have political ambitions. Therefore he should blame the leadership of the regular army for the bad course of the war.
