A railway drama played out this Saturday in Tarn-et-Garonne. An octogenarian died after being hit by a train at Lamagistère station, near Montauban, around 2:45 p.m. The victim died instantly, according to France Blue Occitania, which reports the facts. The train was heading towards Toulouse, from Paris, and was not supposed to stop at Lamagistère.

The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear, but the trail of suicide seems to have been ruled out for the moment, the octogenarian not having thrown himself on the rails. According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim was crossing the track when the train appeared. The collision could not be avoided despite the train’s emergency braking. None of the 385 passengers were injured in the accident.

The train could not leave until around 6:10 p.m., more than three hours after the accident, once various checks were carried out by SNCF agents. The gendarmes also intervened on the spot in order to make the first observations essential to the investigation, reports France Bleu.
