Adif AV contracts the last section of the high-speed line between Palencia and Alar del Rey

Adif AV has already contracted or is under construction all the sections in which the construction of the platform of the new high-speed line between Palencia and Alar del Rey is structured, totaling 78.4 kilometers.

The extension from Alar del Rey to Cantabria has the informative study of the Nogales de Pisuerga-Reinosa High Speed ​​Line, which has been definitively approved by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. The investment planned for this route, which includes the remodeling of the Aguilar de Campo station in Palencia, is 800 million euros. The new layout, independent of the conventional line, has high-speed characteristics, that is, double electrified track and standard gauge.

The works on this section, to be carried out by the OHL construction company, will complete 13.7 kilometers of platform for the new line, which will be single-track, standard gauge and for passenger train traffic, as it passes through Calahorra de Boedo, Pramo de Boedo, Herrera de Pisuerga, Prdanos de Ojeda and Alar del Rey; all of them in the province of Palencia.

Among the singular structures of the route, there is the construction of two viaducts, to circumvent the crossings with the Boedo (126 meters long) and Burejo (182 meters) rivers. In addition, a 252.7-meter crossing structure will be built under the A-67 dual carriageway and the P-231 highway.

Route to Reinosa

Adif gives new impetus to the Palencia-Santander high-speed connection, to which it allocates an investment of 1,700 million euros and which, in addition to the line to Alar del Rey, includes the route to Reinosa (in the drafting phase of projects and studies).

The five sections to Alar del Rey in contracted platform works or in the construction phase are: Palencia-Palencia Norte (1.3 kilometers), work started in March 2023, with an investment of 26.9 million euros; Palencia Norte-Amusco (20.8 kilometers), whose execution began in October 2021, with an investment of 77.3 million euros; Amusco-Osorno (21.9 kilometers), a project that started in July 2021, with an investment of 79.3 million euros; Osorno-Calahorra de Boedo (20.7 kilometers), awarded with an investment of 93.5 million euros; and Calahorra de Boedo-Alar del Rey (13.7 kilometers), awarded with a budget of 109.3 million euros.

The connection with Santander, for its part, materializes through the conventional network, in which it is planned to duplicate the Renedo-Guarnizo and Muriedas-Santander sections and carry out various improvement actions in the rest of the sections on the Torrelavega-Santander route. Santander. The new line will favor Santander’s communications with the center of the country, reducing travel times and reinforcing its reliability and comfort, while increasing circulation capacity.
