The seven-day incidence is currently 173.7. 418 patients are cared for in intensive care units, 22 people have died of or with Covid-19.
After a decrease the previous day, the number is the New infections increased again in the past 24 hours with the coronavirus. Figures from the federal states indicated that the Omikron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is becoming more and more popular. 2374 New infections were registered in the past 24 hours according to the figures from the Ministry of Health and the Interior, by 200 more than the previous day and also significantly more than the average of the past seven days (2217).
The seven-day incidence, however, continued to decline, albeit only slightly. On Christmas Eve it was 173.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. On Friday there were 32,167 active cases in Austria, 1303 fewer than on Thursday. Of 1,260,751 confirmed corona infections since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,214,967 people have so far recovered, and 3,655 have been added within the past 24 hours.
The number of deaths remains high. 22 people have died of or with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. This increased the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in Austria to 13,617. There were 179 victims in the past seven days.
Over 1300 hospital patients with Covid
1364 patients were in the domestic hospitals with Covid disease on Christmas Eve, 90 fewer than the day before. Of them, 418 people were in intensive care units, twelve fewer than the day before. Within a week, that number has dropped by 98.
As expected, there was a lot of testing before Christmas: 769,928 tests were reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, 635,455 were meaningful PCR tests. This means that 153,594,667 corona tests have been carried out since the start of the pandemic. The positive rate of PCR tests was 0.4 percent, which was below the average of 0.5 percent positive PCR tests last week.
6.2 million people have a valid vaccination certificate
43,271 vaccinations were given on Thursday. 6,276,680 people and thus 70.3 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination certificate. Of the 43,271 vaccinations, 4,327 were first stitches, 12,034 vaccinations were second stitches, and 26,910 were third stitches. The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland with 75.6 percent, followed by Lower Austria with 72 percent, Styria with 70 percent and Vienna with 69.5 percent. In Tyrol 69.5 percent have a valid certificate, in Vorarlberg it is 67.5 percent, in Salzburg and Carinthia 66.9 percent each. With a protection rate of 66 percent, Upper Austria continues to bring up the rear.
Most New infections were registered in Vienna with 701, followed by Lower Austria with 388 and Upper Austria with 310. The Tyrol became 261 New infections reported, from Styria 231, from Carinthia 196, from Salzburg 113, as Vorarlberg 110 and from Burgenland 64.
