What Macron said

After the five-party meeting held in Chisinau, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris will continue to make efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Today, together with the head of the European Council Charles Michel and German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz, we met with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev, in order to continue the adjustment between the two sides and help peaceful relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

Pashinyan considers the meeting useful

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said after the five-party meeting held in Chisinau that he considers this discussion useful.

The Armenian service of RFE/RL – Azatutyun writes that Pashinyan expressed these views in a meeting with the Armenian community in Moldova after the negotiations:

“Today there is one more preliminary detail, so I say initially that we still need to check Azerbaijan’s reaction to my statement. It seems that the parties noted that they do not object to the demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on the 1975 maps. This means another step towards the recognition of the territorial integrity of Armenia in the area of 29.8 thousand square kilometers, and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in the area of 86.6 thousand square kilometers.”

Pashinyan said that a number of other issues were also discussed during the meeting:

“We also discussed prisoners and missing persons, humanitarian issues. We had a detailed discussion on the dialogue regarding the rights and security of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians. Here, our European partners expressed a certain position.”

The Prime Minister of Armenia also said that there will be another meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on June 12 in Washington.

According to him, a tripartite meeting of the working group on regional communications should be held on June 2 in Moscow.
