At least 438,000 Brazilian families are on the waiting list to receive Bolsa Familia aid – 06/05/2023 – Economy

Almost three months after the relaunch of Bolsa Família, the star social program of the PT administrations, the waiting list to receive aid grew again.

In May, 438,000 families had been approved as beneficiaries, however, they did not receive the subsidies.

The figures go against the Executive’s intention to eliminate waiting until December, after Parliament approved an injection into the social program of R$ 70 billion for this year, in addition to the R$ 105 billion initially provided for in the National Budget.

The PT found, in January, a liability of 498,000 families waiting for Auxílio Brasil —the name that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) gave to the aid and that preceded the new Bolsa Família program.

In March, the waiting list hit zero, thanks to additional resources. But the wait grew again soon after.

The Executive has not clarified the reasons why these families have not been included in the program.
