“This study is the first step in testing a new way to detect cancer as early as possible,” said Peter Johnson, director of the National Health Service for the fight against cancer. Detecting cancer early is vital, Johnson believes, and the test could potentially help “save thousands of lives.”

Normally, doctors rely on scans or taking a biopsy – examining a small piece of tissue – to diagnose cancer. Cancer was actually found in three-quarters of the people who came out positive from the blood test. Tumors were found to be present in only 2.5 percent of the negative cases.
