Segundo Ángel T. will go to trial for his alleged participation in the femicide of Nelly O. The remains of the woman were found on February 8, 2020 andn a forest in the town of Alaquez, in Latacunga.

In the evaluation hearing, trial preparation and support of opinion, the Prosecutor’s Office presented 66 elements of conviction. These led a Judge of the Specialized Judicial Unit for Violence against Women or Members of the Family Nucleus to establish serious presumptions of responsibility for the defendant, in the violent death of 27-year-old woman.

The evidence includes the certified copy of a complaint that Segundo Ángel T. filed against Nelly O. for an alleged breach of trust. According to him, the victim allegedly withdrew the sum of USD 400 from his account, fgiving him his signature on an over-the-counter withdrawal.

However, a graphotechnical expertise requested by the Prosecutor’s Office determined that the firm with which the transaction was carried out corresponds to that of the same process. Therefore, this complaint was classified as unfounded.

These types of actions, in the opinion of the Prosecutor, constituted a clear patrimonial and economic violence. Frequently, the defendant would have taken advantage of the situation of extreme poverty in which the victim lived.

In April 2021, more human bones were found that also belonged to the same person.
