Iran has received a request to restore Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission in Iran.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this in a statement to journalists today.
“The criminal case related to the attack on the embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran continues,” the minister added.
“We believe that this event is a factor that has a very negative impact on the relations between the two countries. At the same time, we received several requests from Iran regarding the restoration of the activities of our diplomatic mission. However, of course, these issues depend on each other and the Azerbaijani side must be absolutely sure that the criminals, the orderers should be brought to justice and severely punished. All guarantees related to this should be given to the Azerbaijani side, not in words, but in deeds.”
The minister also commented on the issue of Farid Safarli, who was arrested in Iran.
“At the end of January, citizens of Azerbaijan were warned against traveling to Iran. Despite all this, the note was presented immediately after the incident. It took us a long time to get information about the fate of that person. There is a connection between that student and the consulate general,” said the minister.
