Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie was another candidate for the Republican nomination on Tuesday.

“To win, you have to beat whoever is ahead,” Christie said in a podcast.

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie was another candidate for the Republican nomination on Tuesday. He had already applied for it in 2016, but was defeated by the later President Donald Trump. Initially a close advisor to Trump, there was a rift in 2020 because of Trump’s refusal to recognize Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election at the time.

Christie joins a growing pool of candidates including Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and Senator Tim Scott. He recently explained in a podcast: “I’m not stupid. To win, you have to beat whoever is ahead. So what would an election campaign look like? It would look like me challenging Donald Trump head-on and head-on.”
