The original horror comedy “Beetlejuice” was filmed in 1988. 35 years later, a sequel is in the works. There are old faces as well as new ones.

“Batman” star Michael Keaton (71) raves about the shooting of the long-planned “Beetlejuice” sequel. It was “so damn funny” to improvise and invent things on set, the actor told the film site “Empire Online”. He hadn’t had so much fun at work in a long time.

Directed by Tim Burton (64, “Batman”, “Alice in Wonderland”), Keaton reprises his former role as a deranged poltergeist. They filmed the original horror comedy Beetlejuice in 1988. They would proceed in the same style as they did then, Keaton said of the sequel.

The Warner Bros. studio wants to bring “Beetlejuice 2” to the cinema in September 2024, as the industry publication “Hollywood Reporter” reported on Monday. The original comedy was about a deceased couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who want to stay in their mansion. They hire a poltergeist (Michael Keaton) to scare away the newly moved housemates (with Winona Ryder as their teenage daughter).

In addition to Keaton, Ryder is also back on board. Newcomers are Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux. 20-year-old Ortega stars in Burton’s hit mystery series Wednesday. (dpa)
