June promises to be a promising month for the bar and restaurant sector, especially thanks to Valentine’s Day, a traditionally profitable date for many establishments. According to a national survey carried out by Abrasel, 79% of entrepreneurs in the sector expect an increase in revenue compared to the same date last year. Of the total, 57% believe that the increase will be up to 30%. The survey involved the participation of 2,141 owners and managers of bars and restaurants from all regions of Brazil.

According to the president of Abrasel, Paulo Solmucci, the celebration usually represents the best billing day of the year for many bars and restaurants. “This year we will have Valentine’s Day on a Monday, which we consider very positive, as it attracts the public to a normally less busy day of the week, when some establishments would not even open. Based on this, confidence is wide in achieving a turnover higher than that recorded last year, ”he says.

Regarding the economic scenario of companies in the sector, there was a significant improvement compared to previous months. In April, 21% of establishments reported a loss, a reduction of six percentage points compared to the 27% registered in March – and the best result of the year since January. The number of companies that worked in break-even was 41%, while 37% made a profit – 1% of companies surveyed did not respond or did not exist in April.

“It is encouraging to see that in recent months there has been a reduction in the number of companies operating at a loss, returning to the levels recorded at the end of last year, although this is still a considerable number. In view of this, it is crucial to highlight the importance of aid programs, such as PERSE (Emergency Program for the Resumption of the Events Sector), and to fight for the reopening of inclusion in Cadastur, so that the program can cover a greater number of establishments”, he adds. Paul Solmucci.

loans

Regarding loans, the survey revealed that two thirds (66%) of the consulted establishments currently have loans contracted, and 67% of these obtained credit through Pronampe. After the enactment of the new law in April, which allows for the extension of payment deadlines with banks, 11% requested renegotiation and were successful, while 9% are awaiting a response. On the other hand, 11% requested and were unable to renegotiate, and 70% have not yet made the request. Default in relation to the program is 14%, above the market average, which is 4.1%. “In order to honor more urgent commitments, establishments have been failing to pay debts, mainly related to federal taxes”, concludes Solmucci.
