More than 1,800 economic and political decision-makers took part in Africa CEO Forum 2023. In his speech, the President of BOAD, Serge Ekue, addressed some important topics for the emergence of East African economies. West including what it is to be a champion. With regard to the economy and finance, he continues, what is important is the creation of sectors. “The idea is that the sector gains in value and that within this sector, the champion is the one who drains this ecosystem,” said Serge Ekue. The president of BOAD noted a very strong complementarity between the public and private sectors. “There is a complementarity of actions between what the public authorities are called upon to do and what the private sector (as a relay) must imperatively do”, he added. Serge Ekue gave his opinion on de-dollarization which would consist of putting an end to the use of the dollar in international trade. For the president of BOAD, of course, de-dollarization would be positive for Africa, but it is not imminent. “This is not BOAD’s fight. Our vision is a long-term vision. I don’t think that today this subject is ours, immediately no, ”he stressed. The president of BOAD also spoke about the inflation crisis. To lead this fight, the BCEAO has taken certain measures. The main key rate at which the Central Bank lends its resources to banks has risen to 3% in order to reduce the volume of money in circulation. One of the measures proposed by Serge Ekue is to promote local agricultural sectors. “This is a measure that will allow us to produce locally, consume locally and limit our imports,” said the president of BOAD. Regarding the rise in inflation in the world, the president of BOAD indicated long-term solutions. “Inflation forces us to go further in producing locally, to industrialize strongly, to increase the value of our products and to be able to export them”, indicated Serge Ekue. In addition, it should be noted that AFRICA CEO FORUM is the largest international meeting of the African private sector. During the two days, conferences, debates and very high-level meetings highlighted the driving role of the private sector in the development of the continent.
