Pope Francis received today, while successfully recovering from surgery at the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome, a beautiful letter written by the siblings of a baby named Michelangelo, whom the Pontiff had baptized in March of this year.

The director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, reported this June 8 that among the many messages of closeness received, “he was struck by the affection of the family of little Michelangelo, baptized by Pope Francis on last March 31 during a visit to the pediatric oncology and pediatric neurosurgery services of the hospital”.

Bruni explained that the family sent him a letter in which they “wish him a speedy recovery” and that, in response, Pope Francis wanted to “personally thank the mother with a brief phone call.”

The baby’s brothers Miguel Ángel, José Miguel and Massimo Antonio, of Peruvian origin, decorated the letter with drawings of hearts and photographs of their family and another of Pope Francis blessing his younger brother.

The letter reads: “This is my beautiful family, we can only thank you for having blessed our brother and wish you from the bottom of our hearts that you can be better.”

“We would love to meet you in person and spend an afternoon together, so you can meet our family, your family, because now you are part of our lives. Thank you for blessing our little brother Michelangelo. We love you. Get well soon ”, concludes the message.

Pope Francis Health Update

In the message sent by Bruni around 7:00 pm (Rome time), it is indicated that Pope Francis “had a day of rest” and that in the afternoon “he received the Eucharist”.

“Medical personnel following the Pope’s postoperative course report that he was fed a diet of water. Hemodynamic and respiratory parameters are stable. The postoperative course is regular, ”he adds.

Pope Francis underwent intestinal surgery yesterday afternoon. The surgery, which lasted about three hours, was successful.
