An EU source told AGI. The clarification to the news circulated in many Italian newspapers concerns the dossier under discussion in the context of the reform of the common agricultural policy.
The issue of alcohol-free wines is dealt with in the text given the important market opportunity for the EU wine sector offered by ‘alcohol-free’ products.
The Commission had already proposed two years ago that the EU legal framework on wine be updated to regulate the new sector. This proposal, like the rest of the agricultural policy reform, is now being negotiated between the Commission, the Council and the European Parliament.
Both the Council and the Parliament can make proposals for changes. However, the European source consulted by the AGI reiterated, “the proposal put forward by the Commission” in the negotiations “does not include any reference to the addition of water”.
