Sunday June 4, around 11:30 p.m., in the Orgeval district of Reims, a 22-year-old man died. “Several shots were heard followed, it seems, by a chase between two vehicles,” said Mathieu Bourrette, the public prosecutor of Reims. One of the two cars would then have struck the vehicle, hit by several bullet holes, where the victim was, who died on the spot. A murder investigation has been entrusted to the judicial police. Five days earlier, a few hundred meters away, two men had been shot and wounded after a brawl.

Mayor Arnaud Robinet (Horizons) deplored “an escalation of violence in the Orgeval district in recent days. “The reason is known: that of settling scores in the context of drug trafficking. A few traffickers, often widely identified and suspected, rot the life of a neighborhood where honest residents do not feel legitimately safe. »

“The current repression is no longer linked to the savagery of trafficking”

The next day, the prefect of Marne and the mayor held a meeting to meet actors in the field and take action. “The exchanges made it possible to share the concern and the exasperation expressed by the majority of the population which is more and more lively,” said the prefect, Henri Prévost. It is particularly difficult to obtain testimonies on the facts committed, due to the fear of a growing number of inhabitants. »

The senior official recalled that checks, arrests and seizures, prosecutions and convictions, in particular for drug violations, were on the rise and announced a reinforcement of police patrols, in order to multiply the dismantling of deal points. Crime prevention and citizenship education measures will also be pursued.

For Arnaud Robinet, we must go further: “The current repression is no longer linked to the savagery of trafficking. It is no longer adapted to the age of the people involved in the trafficking. We can no longer close our eyes to the involvement of minors in trafficking, and this, very young. The sanction must exist from the first involvement, to prevent the minority from setting itself up as a totem of immunity. He calls for a new judicial arsenal: “conviction of parents whose minor children are involved in trafficking and abolition of social assistance, ban on access to social housing for convicted persons, ban on municipal territory for anyone found guilty of trafficking , penalty of automatic expulsion of convicted persons of foreign nationality…”

This close friend of Édouard Philippe has also been pleading, for several years, for the legalization of cannabis, accompanied by strict control of production and sale by the State, to put an end to trafficking and ensure a health policy.
