The Swiss Sun-Ways will test the installation of solar panels between the rails

Swiss start-up Sun-Ways has announced that it will install solar panels between the rails on the sections of the road near the stations in a pilot project that, if successful, will lead to the installation of similar systems elsewhere and along the lines.

The panels developed by the company can be unrolled and laid like carpets between the tracks by a specially equipped train. In this way, large distances can be covered with solar panels in a short time.
The electricity generated by the solar panels could initially be used by homes near the railway and, in the future, could be used to power trains. Sun-Ways officials claim that 5,000 kilometers of tracks covered with solar panels will generate electricity per year. Enough to energetically cover the consumption of 750,000 homes.
