Athens: Boat accidents continue in Greece On Friday, three refugees drowned in a boat accident off the Aegean Sea. The rest were rescued by paramedics and taken to hospital.
This is the third boat accident in the Aegean Sea this week. The boat was on its way to Italy when it skipped the heavily patrolled East Asian Islands. Eleven people drowned in Wednesday’s crash.
Authorities say the Coast Guard has rescued 57 people from three boats that capsized this week alone. Of these, 27 are children and 11 are women. The mafia, which smuggles refugees from Turkey to Italy on demand, has resumed operations after a hiatus. They take the refugees in air-filled rubber boats after taking money from them. Unfortunately, the vast majority of those who attempt to cross the river often end up in a boat capsize.
