After 40 days lost in the Amazon forest of Colombia, Four indigenous children were found alive this Friday (9), 40 days after a plane crash on May 1. The information was disclosed by the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro.

“A joy for the whole country! The 4 children who were lost for 40 days in the Colombian forest have appeared alive”, Petro wrote on Twitter, in which he also published a photo of several military personnel and indigenous people who participated in the search operation to find the brothers, 13, 9, 4 and 1 year old.

The plane — a Cessna 206 — was carrying seven people on the route between Araracuara, in the province of Amazonas, and San José del Guaviare, a city in the province of Guaviare, when it issued a distress alert due to an engine failure in the early hours of May 1 . Three adults, including the pilot, died as a result of the crash, and their bodies were found inside the plane.

Rescue teams, supported by search dogs, had already found discarded fruit that children ate to survive, as well as makeshift shelters made from jungle vegetation. Planes and helicopters from the Colombian Army and Air Force took part in the rescue operations.

Disclosure

The Colombian president had already informed on May 18 that the children had been found, but the information was not confirmed at the time, and he ended up recanting.
