On the World Day Against Child Labour, the SAS (Secretariat for Social Assistance) will carry out approaches with the delivery of pamphlets at Praça Ary Coelho, in Campo Grande, to promote a reflection on the importance of guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents. The action takes place on June 12, Monday.

In addition to the approaches, during the month of June, awareness workshops will be held at the Social Assistance Reference Centers and schools in the municipality, where the target audience will be the families covered by the Bolsa Família program, groups from the Coexistence Service and Strengthening of Links and 2nd and 4th year elementary school students.

“It is important to motivate society to think about the consequences of child labor in the short, medium and long term and the importance of guaranteeing children and adolescents their rights, such as playing, studying and dreaming, experiences that are typical of childhood and that contribute to decisively for their development”, stressed the Secretary of Social Assistance, José Mário Antunes.

The approaches follow guidelines from the Program of Actions for the Eradication of Child Labor, of the Federal Government, which began in 1996, to meet the demands articulated by the National Forum in 1994.

The program aims to withdraw children and adolescents from early work through a set of actions that focus on the protection of minors under the age of 16, except when in the condition of apprentice, from 14 years old.
