Philippsburg – The drum in the tumble dryer spun… and spun… and spun… Then suddenly flames erupted from the machine.
Now the entire ground floor of a residential building in Philippsburg has burned down. Because of a technical defect.
An emergency call was made to the fire brigade in Philippsburg (near Karlsruhe) around 3 p.m. The alarm read: “Human lives concretely in danger”. That is why comrades from Oberhausen-Rheinhausen and Waghäusel also moved out.
A fire brigade spokesman: “When we arrived, the fire had already spread to a pergola roof and spread over the paneling of the outer wall and further to the roof structure.”
In the end, 37 firefighters extinguished the fire – some using a turntable ladder and three other C-pipes.
According to the police, they were able to prevent the flames from spreading to a neighboring building.
Nobody got hurt. Because the residents of the house had all been able to get to safety in time. Because of the extinguishing work, Oskar-Frey-Straße was closed for around two hours.
Chief Inspector Larissa Großmann: “We currently estimate the damage to property at around 70,000 euros.”
