Tamar Yadin, clinical dietician consultant to the Herbalife company, donates a winning recipe for low-calorie apple strudel
Ingredients (for one strudel, about 10 servings):
4 sheets of phyllo dough, thawed according to the instructions on the package.
Filo dough does not contain fat and does not absorb oil, so it is a healthier option.
3 green apples, peeled and cut into small cubes. Those who don’t like it can substitute red apples, which are sweeter, or even pears.
2 tablespoons unheated coconut oil
3-4 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon cornflour
2 tablespoons squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1-2 tablespoons of silane
Powdered sugar for decoration
Instructions:
filling:
- Heat a wide pan and when it’s hot add the coconut oil.
- Add the apples and heat in the pan for about 10 minutes, until they soften.
- In a separate saucer, mix cornflour and lemon juice as well as brown sugar, add the mixture to the apples in the pan and mix for a few minutes.
- Add the cinnamon and mix well.
- Cool the mixture.
Preparation of filo dough:
- Place the phyllo sheets on a baking sheet, so that they partially cover each other.
- Brush the top of the pages with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Those who wish can anoint with melted butter.
- Place the apple filling that has cooled in the meantime on the wide part of the leaves.
Make sure that the edges are left without stuffing, so that you can close the pages around the stuffing.
- Tighten the stuffing and roll the filo leaves around them so that a rectangle is formed.
- Brush the strudel with Silan.
- Put in an oven preheated to 200 degrees for 18-20 minutes, or until the strudel is golden.
- Cool when ready.
- sprinkle over powdered sugar
