The motive for the crime is still unexplained. An eleven-year-old girl was shot dead on Saturday evening in Plonévez-du-Faou (Finistère) while she was in the family garden and her father was seriously injured after shooting from a neighbour, the Quimper prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday.
The eldest daughter fatally shot
The facts occurred near the village church, in the hamlet of Saint-Herbot. The young girl was with her parents and her 8-year-old sister in their house in which this British family has been living for less than five years. According to a witness quoted by The Telegram“the girls were playing on the swing when the neighbor pulled”.
At around 10 p.m., a man appeared with a gun and shot the family repeatedly. The 11-year-old girl was fatally shot, her father seriously injured. His vital prognosis is engaged, said the public prosecutor of Quimper Carine Halley. The victim’s mother is also injured, but her injuries “do not engage her vital prognosis”, adds the prosecution.
The youngest child was able to escape the shots, finding refuge with another neighbour. However, she is “in a state of shock”, says Carine Halley.
A couple in custody
The main suspect is a neighbor of the victims, confirmed the public prosecutor of Quimper. He is a retired Dutch national, 71 years old. According France 3 Brittanyhe would have been living in the hamlet for three years.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the man “suddenly appeared armed with a firearm and shot several times in the direction of the victims who were in their garden, before taking refuge in his home, in the company of his wife, ”explains the prosecution.

An investigation by the Quimper prosecutor’s office was opened for “voluntary homicide on a 15-year-old minor” and “attempted voluntary homicides”, it was entrusted to the Châteaulin research brigade.
A dispute over a plot of land
For the moment, the reasons for this act are not yet known. The parquet of Quimper evokes the track of a neighborhood dispute around a “plot of land adjoining the two properties” in progress “for several years”.
“I heard a lot of noise but I did not attend the scene” testified a neighbor to the Telegram. “These people didn’t make a fuss and were very nice. The lady works as a home help and the gentleman does odd jobs. They are always ready to help,” he insisted.
