It was held in Kursaal Santalucia of Bari (largo Adua) the presentation of the volume “Kursaal Santalucia Theater – the mile of the theaters of Bari” (Editori Laterza, 2021). In the book, the story, with a rich iconographic apparatus, of the study and restoration phases of the Kursaal Santalucia Theater, one of the gems that illuminate the monumental seafront of Bari. Rebuilding a theater in a historic area of the city can be an adventure exciting. In Bari, in one mile – between the seafront and the main street – there are four theaters, all involved in historical events that have jeopardized their existence. Between Petruzzelli, destroyed by fire in 1991, the Margherita, which remained abandoned for thirty years, and the Piccinni, which in 1944 hosted the first congress of the CLN and which has recently risen after a long restoration, is the Kursaal Santalucia.

Overlooking the sea, the Kursaal was the reign of the magazine and variety, a first-run cinema, but also an elegant place for weddings and parties of the emerging Bari bourgeoisie of the last century. Purchased by the Region and entrusted for the restoration – in reality, a real philological reconstruction – to a skilled team of companies and artists, it is now available to the city and to the regional cultural programming. The volume indicates the way to the future of the structure and tells the past of what at the beginning of the twentieth century seemed a risky bet in a peripheral area at the time and today frequented by thousands of people every day and at all hours. And in a mile walk, citizens will be able to choose between the great opera and the symphonic at the Petruzzelli, the more contemporary music and shows in the multipurpose space of the Kursaal, the exhibitions in the stalls of the Margherita and the prose at the Piccinni.
The president of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, the director of the Culture Department of the Puglia Region, Aldo Patruno, the arch. Anita Guarnieri of the Superintendency of Bari, the publisher Alessandro Laterza, the editors of the volume Carmen D’Onghia and Nico Lorusso, eng. Domenico Barozzi of Cobar and the collaborators of the book, enriched by two interventions by Luca Medici (Checco Zalone) and Michele Mirabella.
