The 2nd edition of the women’s Tour of the Pyrenees was canceled this Sunday morning, before the start of the stage between Nay and Bosdarros.
Water in the gas. On Saturday, the women’s Tour of the Pyrenees peloton stopped 53 kilometers from the finish, citing security reasons. Runners worried about running on roads open to motorist traffic. In the end, the race was canceled this Sunday morning by the UCI, before the start of the third stage between Nay and Bosdarros (126 km).
And this while the organizers were hoping for a recovery, with Pascal Baudron, race director, who explained this (via the New Republic of the Pyrenees ) : «What happens is that the girls have requirements that are not in line with their level. They imagine that they are on the Tour de France and that all the roads must be closed, that everything must be locked. But in France, you can’t do that. (…)For the moment we have not had any negative feedback and we are leaving under normal conditions. Yesterday (Saturday) the president of the jury and the main referee went to see the girls, telling them that they had inadmissible requests.»
Several teams, including Team Jumbo Visam had already left the race before the decision of the UCI marshals of the event.
