The Labor inspectors take a step forward in the battle they are having with the Government and paralyze many of the campaigns that they had programmed and that have been activated throughout this legislature. This is an action prior to the indefinite strike that will begin on June 26 and that adds to the wave of strikes and mobilizations that are being carried out against the Ministry of Labor and Finance and Public Function, which they blame of breaching the agreement signed in July 2021 by which the Executive promised to reinforce the organization’s staff, increasingly overworked, and improve their salary conditions, among other measures.

Thus, “until the strategic plan is fulfilled” and the structure of the Labor Inspection is “reinforced”, the eight unions that represent the group of Labor inspectors announced this Monday through a statement that they will stop carrying out most of the campaigns launched by the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, and which were included among her star actions in the fight against fraud and compliance with ensuring the rights of workers. Specifically, those that are linked to the strategic plan, such as the fight against false self-employed workers and temporary contracts, the control of equality plans between women and men, the control of work time, the registration of the working day, the control of the salary conditions of the employees, the exonerations of the ERTE Covid, the control of the irregular economy and the work of foreigners in agriculture, the control of risks associated with agricultural activity, etc. In total, forty performances that will no longer be carried out.

The group denounces that a year and a half has passed since the strategic plan was approved in the Council of Ministers in December 2021 and its tasks have been increasing significantly but, nevertheless, the inspection structure has not been strengthened or It has provided it with a new list of jobs, as promised by the two competent ministries, those directed by Yolanda Díaz and María Jesús Montero. Despite this, the officials have carried out to date both the unplanned activity (complaints, etc.) and the scheduled activity (campaigns), which have been generated by the agency to comply with the Strategic Plan. Until now, that they rebel and paralyze these actions.

“If we are faced with rights that the Constitution guarantees, we will have to strengthen their legal and, above all, institutional guarantees if we want to ensure their effectiveness,” explain the signatory unions. And they specify: «And this is where the role to be played by the Labor Inspectorate is revealed as decisive, one of the most powerful State structures, whose own functions connect it directly with the areas where labor rights and a good part of the social rights take shape”.
