The investiture of the future mayor of Barcelona, scheduled as in all Spanish municipalities for Saturday, June 17, depends on whether Vox appeals the electoral count in court. Vox has already presented two appeals in which it asks to review the votes declared invalid on election night: it considers that if they were validated, they could favor its result. The first appeal was presented to the Barcelona Electoral Board and the second, last Wednesday, to the Central Electoral Board (JEC), which has not yet responded, explains the party.
The JEC has until June 13 to resolve and, in the event that it is not favorable to Vox’s claim, the formation could file a third contentious appeal before the courts, for which it has until the 17th. In this case, the investiture would be postponed for three weeks, until Friday, July 7.
The resources that Vox has presented to date require “opening the envelopes of each and every one of the invalid votes for their due examination and verification.” A review that was not carried out on June 2, when the Barcelona Electoral Board compared the polling records with the data entered into Indra’s computer program, but ruled out opening invalid votes. Vox understands that on election day “ballots were invalidated due to Vox’s ballot format.”
The party sent electoral propaganda ballots to homes with the logo wrapped in a box and those at the tables did not have this box, although “both types were validated by the Electoral Board,” he says. Vox recalls that the votes considered invalid on election night were 6,402, and considers that if some were validated in his favor, he could get a third councilor, because they were 1,500 votes away from obtaining it.
