This is the second time she has spoken. The first was on Saturday, when the peloton was stopped in the middle of the 2nd stage of the Tour of the Pyrenees, the day before the cancellation of the event. Audrey Cordon-Ragot spoke again, this time in the columns of West France. The French champion says in particular that the participants feared accidents.

“It was not what we expected from this race, explains the 33-year-old Breton woman. The first stage (Friday) went badly. The second (Saturday) was better, but still not 100% safe. The girls wanted to stop. It was not good for us or for the organization. This is where I spoke. I said : those who want to tarp do it now, and those who want to continue continue. »

The French champion, who joined in early April with the Human Powered Health team (1st world division) specifies on this subject that there was “a vote the night before. “She herself wanted to continue, but” not in these conditions, we were afraid for our lives. The vote that followed gave 14 teams not wanting to start Sunday’s 3rd stage, against 7 who were in favor.

She also goes back to the safety conditions (cars in the wrong direction or badly parked) and adds that there was also “a big problem with the bikers, most of them inexperienced. We have seen some who did not know how to stop the cars before the race. It got us in a cold sweat.”

Having experienced the same situation a few years earlier on the Tour of Tuscany, the five-time French time trial champion makes it clear that she does not blame the organizers, “who are not always helped. We are disappointed, we know that the organization is angry with us, but we are not angry with them. It was a decision that was made for us, not against them”.
