It was the final vote to close the sequence of pension reform in the National Assembly. The motion of censure tabled by the New Popular, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) failed to unite, Monday, June 12, the majority necessary to overthrow the government of Elisabeth Borne. A total of 239 MEPs supported this proposal.
A year to the day after the first round of legislative elections, from which emerged a relative majority for the presidential party in the National Assembly, the Prime Minister has already had to face 17 motions of censure.
This procedure, detailed in article 49.2 of the Constitution, allows the deputies to question the responsibility of the government if it is voted by more than half of the Hemicycle. It was launched four times by the National Rally and thirteen times by the Nupes. The one that followed the use of 49.3 on the pension reform project failed with 9 votes of the required majority.
