DISPATCH — In Lyon, the environmentalist majority wants to offer a grant of €1,500 for the artist duo “Lundy Grandpré”. The trouble is that they sometimes perform naked in front of children, in the middle of a garden in which there are sex toys, thereby promoting what they call “ecosexuality”. Not everyone is keen on the idea…

On their websiteAkène Lenoir (dancer trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon) and Lucile Genin (designer of space trained at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon) introduce themselves as follows: “All the two performers their, they have fun deconstructing the boundaries between live arts, visual arts and performances. The duo plays with the rules of the art in order to create plural forms, definitely multidisciplinary and joyfully unclassifiable.”

On June 29, the mayor of the city Grégory Doucet and the deputy Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert, will organize a vote in favor of a subsidy for “Lundy Grandpré”. The catch is that some of their past videos have resurfaced, and are struggling to be digested by the opposition. In one of them, a performance entitled “Becoming Larva” presented in 2022, we see the actors move naked in the middle of a garden, like a larva. But still, we also see sex toys… and children in the audience. A way to bring “jubilant botany” and “ecosexuality” to life, according to the artist duo. For Pierre Oliver, LR mayor of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, it’s too much:

Contacted by Le FigaroNathalie Perrin-Gilbert ensures that this video has been decontextualized: “It was shot two years ago after an artistic residency. The performance took place in front of people from the art center where this residency took place and in front of companies. The children present were accompanied and the parents knew what show they were going to see. It was not in the public space and not intended for the general public.

But it’s not just this video that stands out. “Lundy Grandpré” is also pinned for the herbal teas of medicinal plants sold on their site. Among them, “Musculafion” is based on oregano and nettle, “Yoga Je t’aime” on lemon balm and lavender, and “Tsunamiiii” on mugwort and rosemary. There is also “The Painkiller”, written with the A of the anarchists, representing a woman hitting a policeman.

In favor of this rise to power of “wokism”, in the words of Pierre Oliver, Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert insists: “I am not for any form of cultural censorship. The artistic fields are multiple and we also support hyper classic projects of lyrical art, for example.”

See you at the city council on June 29th.
