As in Spanish, in Neapolitan there is no difference between sleep and dream. They are inseparable and intertwined.
Instead, they are distinguished in the verb: durmi ‘, sunna’. Duorme Carme ‘, a’ o cchi bello d’vita ‘o durmi’, sunnat ‘a me … (Carmela by Giambattista De Curtis).
For the Greeks, meritorious founders of the city and its name, the word dream also involved vision and manifested itself even when awake.
For the ancient Hebrews it was a letter to read in the morning. Sacred writing filled with dreams and interpreters.
